Upon arrival, they learned that the bird — a sun conure named “Papaya” — had been placed on the front porch of the home while still in his cage, police added.

However, the release shows that when the owner checked on Papaya around 8 p.m., he was already gone.

“The cage was found securely closed, and the victim stated Papaya is unable to escape on his own,” the release reads. “Papaya is approximately 2 years old, with clipped wings preventing him from flying.”

Investigators described Papaya as being mainly bright orange with green, yellow and blue markings.

“Papaya is well-known throughout the Mount Dora community,” the release continues.

Anyone with information on Papaya’s whereabouts is urged to contact police at 352-735-7130.
