VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man in a stolen vehicle was arrested Tuesday after leading Volusia deputies on a chase that ended with him crashing into patrol cars, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said deputies had been notified of a stolen vehicle that fled from Daytona Beach Shores officers and headed north on Interstate 95.
A deputy who spotted the black Chevy Tahoe deployed stop sticks on the interstate, deflating two of the tires, the sheriff’s office said. Body camera video posted on social media shows the deputy deploying the stop sticks.
“All right, I got a good stick here,” the deputy is heard saying.
Deputies said the driver, identified as 47-year-old Brian Blucher, continued driving on I-95, got off at an exit, and drove into a parking lot of a shopping center.
In the parking lot, the sheriff’s office said Blucher drove “erratically” in circles and hit two Volusia Sheriff’s Office patrol cars and a New Smyrna Beach Police Department vehicle. Deputies and officers blocked off the area and coordinated a “successful vehicle containment technique‚” sheriff’s officials said.
“Lock him in, do not let him out,” a deputy is heard saying on the body camera video.
Blucher tried to escape by spinning the tires for “an extended amount of time” but eventually gave up, deputies said. Blucher, who is from Key West, was then taken into custody.
He faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and grand theft auto.
No officers were injured.
