POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 52-year-old Frostproof man drowned in Lake Clinch on Sunday afternoon, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Pierre Plourde was at the lake in Frostproof with his family when he noticed his boat that was parked on shore started to float out into the lake.
“He ran down, got into the lake and was swimming to the boat when he went under,” Sheriff Grady Judd said.

According to the release, a friend tried to rescue Plourde without success, at which time the Frostproof Fire Department and the sheriff’s office responded to the scene.
Grady said that crews were able to find Plourde “within a few minutes” of responding on the bottom of the lake, but he was was pronounced dead.
No other details were released.
