VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 22-year-old tree service employee was killed on Monday morning after part of a tree that was being trimmed fell on him, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that the victim and a coworker were cutting trees on George Ryan Road around 9:40 a.m. when the incident happened.

The victim’s coworker was in a bucket truck with a chainsaw and announced he was going to start cutting the tree after observing the area below was clear, according to a news release.

Deputies said that the victim, who was further back near a different truck, returned to the area underneath where the coworker was cutting and was hit by a falling tree trunk.
The coworker called 911 and attempted life-saving measures, but the unidentified victim was pronounced deceased at scene, according to the release.
“At this time, the investigation has determined this was an accidental death. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the victim’s family,” the release read in part.
