11-year-old jailed over ‘Kill List’ at school in Volusia County

Boy faces charge of threatening fellow students

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – An 11-year-old Volusia County student was arrested after he was found with a “Kill List,” according to the sheriff’s office.

In a release, deputies said that the student wrote the list on his desk at Southwestern Middle School because “he was angry and having a bad day.”

Now, the student in question faces a felony charge of threatening his fellow students.

“If you’re tired of hearing this, imagine how the 99% of students, parents, teachers and school staff are feeling,” the release reads.

News 6 has opted against releasing the student’s identity or showing his face.

However, this isn’t the first time that a student this young was arrested in Volusia County for making threats.

One year ago, another 11-year-old student was taken into custody after Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the child threatened to shoot up either Creekside Middle School or Silver Sands Middle School in Port Orange.

“He had a written list of names and targets,” Chitwood wrote at the time. “He says it was all a joke.”

Back then, the incident came amid a spike of similar school threats across Central Florida.
