SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A Sabal Point Elementary paraprofessional resigned after self-reporting “concerning thoughts” to a school resource officer, according to Seminole County Public Schools.
The school district on Friday issued a statement about the incident, which happened on Sept. 24.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 23-year-old paraprofessional had requested to be placed under a Baker Act because he had thoughts about cutting a 6-year-old’s throat with a knife when he became frustrated with the student. He also said he thought about carrying out a school shooting, according to authorities.

School district officials said the paraprofessional was “placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation and has since tendered his resignation with SCPS.”
During a school board meeting on Tuesday, parents voiced frustrations over how the district handled the situation and how they weren’t informed about the issue for days.
“How many other schools has this happened at... how many times have you swept something under the rug to protect yourself?” a person asked during the school board meeting.
Some members of the school board promised to get to the bottom of it and said situations like these cannot be allowed to happen again.
