Lake County Sheriff’s Office clerk arrested for unauthorized database access, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A clerk with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on a warrant for unauthorized access to computer systems or networks, the sheriff’s office said.

According to a news release, the arrest followed an investigation that began on Oct. 1 when the sheriff’s office received allegations that Hannah Colon, 30, was abusing her access to restricted law enforcement databases. She was assigned as a clerk in the Criminal Investigations division and accessed sensitive databases on her assigned desktop computer outside the scope of her employment.

The investigation revealed that Colon had been accessing the databases improperly since 2023. A search warrant was executed on her assigned computer, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant, deputies said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, multiple co-workers raised concerns about Colon’s behavior, including her interactions with a homicide detective while wearing Meta AI glasses capable of recording. Colon was reportedly Facebook friends with a suspect in two Lake County homicides.

During a recorded interview on Oct. 8, Colon acknowledged running searches on individuals related to her personal matters, including her husband’s ex-wife and her husband, using law enforcement databases without legitimate work-related reasons, the affidavit states.

Colon turned herself in on Oct. 9 and was charged with two counts of unauthorized access to a computer system or network.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail, on a $2,500 bond was placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
