DeLEON SPRINGS, Fla. – Volusia County deputies say they’ve caught a stolen truck suspect who fled from law enforcement and hid out in a state park swamp for more than two days.
Deputies say they spotted Earl Dorey, 37, in a stolen truck on Wednesday and tried to arrest him, but he bailed out of the vehicle and went to De Leon Springs State Park, officials said.
He’s also accused of pointing a gun at the deputies and then pointing the weapon at his head as he retreated further into the swamp.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office released body-cam video of the swamp search as deputies attempted to capture Dorey.
“He’s in the water,” a deputy can be heard yelling. “Dude, just give the f*** up!”
On Friday afternoon, a VSO K-9 unit was able to catch Dorey, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
“His only complaint today is that he’s thirsty and his legs hurt,” the sheriff’s office posted.
Dorey is facing charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, fleeing from law enforcement, and possession of a controlled suspect.
Two others who were with Dorey were arrested, officials said.
