THE VILLAGES, Fla. – A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of robbing two people at gunpoint in The Villages, tying them up, and stealing their car, according to State Attorney William M. Gladson.
Robert Leroy Connor II, 57, was convicted in September of armed robbery, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of false imprisonment while armed, Gladson’s office said in a news release.
The robbery occurred June 12, 2023, when Connor rang the doorbell and asked for water that morning, the release states. After gaining entry to the home, Connor asked to use one of the victims’ phones to make a call, yet he didn’t use it and he didn’t give it back, according to the release.

Connor then demanded money from both victims and, because the amount wasn’t enough, went on to demand their bank account information, Gladson’s office said.
“At one point during his crime, Connor stood behind the first victim and pointed a gun to their head. He then proceeded to bind and tie both victims’ arms and hands,” the release states.
Conner rummaged through the victims’ belongings, such as a jewelry box, before stealing the keys to the victims’ vehicle and exiting the home, according to the release. Connor tried kicking in the front door after noticing that one of the victims had since managed to reach and lock both the garage and front doors to the residence, the release states, adding Connor eventually fled in the stolen car.
Connor was arrested after multiple traces of his DNA were found in the house and the car, which was later recovered, according to the release. In addition to the life sentence, he was sentenced to 30 years for each count of false imprisonment and 10 years for the charge of grand theft, the release states.
