Ocala police puzzled after man shot, killed during reported break-in

Detectives are looking for tips about 28-year-old Cristian Leiva

OCALA, Fla. – Police are searching for answers after they said a man was fatally shot during a reported break-in over the weekend.

In a release, police said the incident happened on Saturday shortly before midnight.

At the time, the department received a call from someone who reported shooting a man attempting to break into his home, police added.

When officers arrived, they found the man — identified as Cristian Leiva, 28 — with a gunshot wound, the release states. He was taken to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

“The investigation is ongoing, and the involved party who fired the weapon is cooperating with law enforcement,” the release reads.

But now, police are asking the public for help in the investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident or who had contact with Leiva on Saturday night before the shooting is asked to come forward.
