GROVELAND, Fla. – Kroger is agreeing to a termination deal with the Lake County government over the closure of its delivery fulfillment center, and the county will get nearly half a million dollars as part of the agreement.
Lake County released a statement Friday that grocery company Kroger signed the termination agreement the county initiated last week.
As part of the deal, the company must reimburse the county $460,714.53 by Dec. 31.

Kroger received that money from the county in the form of tax incentives and impact fee rebates after opening the facility in Groveland.
But Kroger announced last month that it would close that facility on Feb. 1, laying off more than 900 people.
The decision means Kroger will not fulfill its end of the original 10-year operating commitment it had with the county.
Once the funds are returned, the county commission will figure out what to do with that money.
Kroger’s partner in the facility, delivery service Ocado, had its own economic development deal with the county. The county says the company is reviewing its own termination agreement.
Meanwhile, CareerSource will host a job fair on Dec. 10 at the Kroger facility for the employees losing their jobs. Details on that can be found HERE.
