NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Crews on Monday began replacing New Smyrna Beach docks damaged by hurricanes and boating mishaps at North Causeway’s eastside boat ramps with a modern floating system, according to officials.
Westside parking, ramps and other facilities will remain open during construction, which is scheduled to be completed by May.

City officials said the project is funded in part by two Florida Inland Navigation District grants covering 50% of costs. City commissioners awarded the contract to Construct Co Inc. in April after delays were caused by supply chain constraints on higher quality materials needed for extended warranty coverage.
Floating docks are expected to provide safer and more consistent boarding regardless of tide, improved storm resilience and longer lifespans with less upkeep compared to traditional fixed docks.
Officials said the work is part of 36 capital improvement projects currently underway. Residents can view all projects on an interactive map found here.
