Leesburg police seek 2 persons of interest in fatal shooting of 18-year-old at park

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Leesburg Police Department on Tuesday released the names of two persons of interest in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old over the weekend.

Officers responded Sunday afternoon to Berry Park, where they found Juan Gomez Jr. shot inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department said detectives are trying to speak with D’Yuntre Wright and James Fenderson IV. Police said the two may have information that could help the homicide investigation.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact the Leesburg Police Department at 352-728-9862 or report anonymously through Crimeline.

A GoFundMe was set up by Gomez Jr.’s family to help support expenses.

“Juan Alberto Gomez Jr, known by his family as “Junie” was only 18 years old. He was taken from us way too soon and way too young. He was lost unexpectedly and under tragic circumstances which are still being investigated. This is every family’s worst nightmare," the GoFundMe reads.
