FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Body camera video released Thursday showed the moments a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office K9 helped capture a man accused of stealing a truck and committing multiple burglaries.
Jake Kasica, 23, of Palm Coast, was arrested in the Daytona North area of Flagler County, also known as the Mondex.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were alerted of a stolen truck in Daytona North. The victim said his truck was stolen overnight and had been stolen in the past by Kasica, deputies said.
The victim told deputies he went to a residence on Holly Lane where he had found his stolen vehicle before and found the truck again with Kasica inside, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies began searching for Kasica when he took of in the truck after the victim confronted him.
The sheriff’s office said at the same time, deputies were investigating a burglary in the same community and saw the stolen truck “slowly pass.”
Multiple deputies responded to the scene to search for Kasica, who was later seen by a detective riding a bicycle.
“As the detective passed, the suspect attempted to conceal his face from being seen. The detective then turned around to make contact with him, however the suspect fled into the nearby woods,” the sheriff’s office said.
Within 30 seconds, K9 Uno found Kasica hiding in the bushes and bit him in the arm to apprehend him, deputies said.
“Get the dog off me,” Kasica is heard saying to a deputy.
“You gotta come out to me. Do it now,” the deputy is heard responding.
In the woods, deputies found ammunition, a small plastic bag containing a gray powdery substance that later tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids, and hypodermic needles among other items.
Kasica‘s dog bite was treated before he was taken to the Flagler County detention facility, where he is being held on no bond.
Kasica faces charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.
