PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A man and a woman from Port Orange who were arrested in December are accused of stealing from a local apartment complex, according to police.
Maintenance supplies were reported stolen from the complex on Dec. 18, the Port Orange Police Department said in a statement. Through an investigation, Sean Johnson, 39, and his girlfriend Dianaruth Persaud, 50, were both identified as suspects, the statement reads.
Body-worn camera video shared by police shows officers responding to the couple’s residence on Dec. 29 to contact them. The footage eventually shows their arrests, with Johnson’s occurring after an officer uses a Taser on him.
“Sean was known to police and has fled on multiple previous incidents,” the statement reads. “As Sean exited his residence through a garage, officers attempted to stop him and he ran back inside. Officers chased Sean as he actively resisted, where they deployed a Taser to stop and apprehend him safely.”
Persaud in the meantime was heard inside the home before she ran out the rear of the residence and was found hiding with her 7-year-old daughter in a neighbor’s house, police said.
Persaud faces a charge of burglary of an unoccupied structure and has since posted bond, records show.
Johnson faces the same charge, as well as those of grand theft between $750 and $5,000, obstructing an officer without violence, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of paraphernalia, and a charge of domestic battery by strangulation in a different case, according to court documents. He is being held on no bond.
