VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health is advising people to stay out of the water near Lighthouse Point Park in Volusia County due to an increase in bacteria.

Officials on Thursday said tests showed the water quality did not meet the criteria for Enterococcus bacteria as recommended by the Florida Department of Health.

Due to the increased level of bacteria, swimming and other water-related activities are not advised due to an increased risk in illness.

Bacteria in the water is often a problem in winter and early spring because of large flocks of migrating birds.
