Congressman Frost discusses ICE operations, reintroducing gun violence prevention bills

Frost also addresses reports of potential federal processing center being built in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla.News 6 has been digging into that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is in Central Florida after online chatter and TikTok videos sparked speculation.

While sharing his plans to reintroduce three bills aimed at preventing gun violence — the merchant codes can save lives act, the destroy zombie guns act and the prevent illegal guns sales act — U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D) Orlando, shared more about his insight to ICE activity in Central Florida.

Frost said that ICE agents are indeed active in the area and expressed strong opposition to their presence, criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies.

“Not to mention the reign of terror from federal agents and Ice that he’s been deploying in our communities across the entire country,” he said. “We saw that horrible murder of Rene Nicole Good. The ice agent looked her in the face during the ice and shot her in the face. By the way, that was gun violence, too.”

This week, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem urged people to be prepared to provide proof of citizenship. Shortly after, Frost warned his constituents about ICE’s presence in Central Florida through an Instagram video, noting that agents had made large hotel reservations in surrounding hotels.

News 6 asked how he confirmed ICE’s activity in the area.

“We work with local organizations. We work with local governments, elected officials, and we have a very strong network that has been working together over the last year to work at confirming information about what’s going on in our community,” he explained.

Frost also addressed reports of a potential federal processing center being built in Central Florida.

“We’ve heard about the potential processing center being built in Central Florida,” he said. “We want our taxpayer dollars used to help our community, not take our neighbors away, that make this community what it is and make it the city beautiful.”

Looking ahead, Frost plans to push gun violence prevention laws through Congress this session. He also shared his intention to vote against an upcoming bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security, the agency responsible for immigration enforcement.
