MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman were arrested after claiming they were undercover detectives and stealing someone’s wallet while at a bank in Marion County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Colby Thompson, 48, and Autumn Cashman, 38, were arrested Thursday in Marion County.

According to the sheriff’s office, a victim told deputies on Dec. 28 that he was approached by Thompson and Cashman, who told him they were undercover law enforcement detectives.

“During the encounter, Thompson blinded the victim with a flashlight and began to question him. While the victim was distracted, Cashman removed the victim’s wallet through the passenger side of his vehicle. Thompson also took the victim’s cellphone and spoke with the victim’s wife, during which he again claimed that they were undercover detectives,” deputies said.

The victim later noticed fraudulent charges that day at a Walmart, Forest Fire vape shop, Dairy Queen, Marathon Gas and Priority Tire, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials said surveillance video at the Dairy Queen and Walmart “clearly depicted” the two suspects using the victim’s card.

Thompson and Cashman were found at their home on Thursday and arrested.

The two face charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer, burglary of an occupied conveyance and grand theft. Thompson faces additional charges of fraudulent use of credit cards and criminal use of personal identification information.
