Man nabbed after bomb threat at Ormond Beach synagogue, police say

Robert Tuck, 57, faces charge of threatening a destructive device

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A man was arrested after a bomb threat was falsely made against a synagogue on Wednesday morning, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department.

In a release, police said that the threat came in at Temple Beth-El, located along Nova Road, around 10:45 a.m.

Officers responded to the building, and the Temple Beth-El elementary school was placed on lockdown as a precaution, police added.

However, investigators said they ultimately determined there weren’t any explosives at the scene.

But investigators did find the suspect — identified as 57-year-old Robert Tuck — at a halfway house in Daytona Beach later that afternoon, and he was taken into custody, the release shows.

Now, Tuck faces charges of threatening to discharge a destructive device, making a false report about planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction, unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate the commission of a felony, disrupting a school function, sexual cyberharassment, and attempted terrorism, booking records show.

“I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork and professionalism shown by our officers and our partners at the Volusia Sheriff’s Office in apprehending the suspect quickly,” Police Chief Jesse Godfrey said. “We take every threat very seriously and remain committed to the safety and peace of mind of our community.”

At Tuck’s first appearance in court on Thursday, a judge found probable cause for all but the sexual cyberharassment charge. The state was given 72 hours to produce any information with respect to that.

Tuck will be represented by a public defender and will have a pre-trial detention hearing at an undetermined date. He is being held on no bond.
