MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A woman who shot a Marion County deputy while handcuffed last year will now spend several decades behind bars, according to court records obtained by News 6.
The incident first happened back in June 2025, when the woman — identified as 22-year-old Rheanna Harden — was stopped by a deputy along South Highway 441.
At the time, she was taken into custody on charges of driving with a suspended license, providing false ID, and drug possession.
But while she was taken to the county jail, Harden — still handcuffed in the back seat of the patrol car — managed to slip a hand out of her cuffs and open the plexiglass partition between her and the deputy, an arrest affidavit states.
Footage shows Harden removing her visor and covering the rear seat camera before producing a handgun concealed in her clothing and then firing multiple shots through the partition.
The deputy returned fire, and the vehicle eventually crashed into a utility pole. Both Harden and the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals, the sheriff’s office said.

A revolver with six spent shell casings was recovered at the scene near where Harden was removed from the vehicle, deputies said.
Harden ended up receiving an additional charge of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.
On Monday, Harden was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
