SANFORD, Fla. – Police in Sanford are investigating a shooting at a gas station.
The shooting happened Friday at the 7-Eleven on West 25th Street near West Airport Boulevard.
A 19-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries, police say. He remained in critical condition as of Friday night.
Police later identified the suspect as 19-year-old Zeidan McKever.
“McKever was with a group of people, and they all engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim, Terrance Jerard Riggins,” a release from the police department reads. “During the altercation, KcKever used a firearm to shoot at Terrance, who shot back at McKever with his own firearm.”
According to the department, both McKever and Riggins were struck in the shootout and hospitalized.
McKever was ultimately arrested and now faces charge of criminal mischief and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
News 6 was at the scene for several hours as investigators worked the area. Dozens of evidence markers were visible across the parking lot, and crime scene vans remained on site as detectives collected evidence.
The front windows of the 7-Eleven were boarded up as police continued their investigation.
Authorities cleared the scene shortly after 7 p.m.
