70-year-old fisherman dies after falling from boat in St. John’s River

Incident happened near Lemon Bluff boat ramp in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 70-year-old man died after falling from his boat while fishing along the St. John’s River this week, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In a release, FWC officials said they were originally notified of a “boating incident” in Volusia County on Monday.

Investigators explained that the man had been fishing from his vessel near the Lemon Bluff boat ramp when he fell into the water.

“A good Samaritan recovered the man from the water; he was transported to an area hospital for treatment,” the release reads. “Sadly, he died from his injuries.”

FWC officials also said that this remains an open investigation.

“FWX extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” the release concludes.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including the identity of the elderly boater who died.
