Altamonte Springs launches 911 texting tool with officer arrival updates

Community Connect aims to keep callers informed after the initial emergency call

ATLAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – When residents call 911 in Altamonte Springs, they can now get real-time updates that tell them exactly when an officer is coming.

This week, the department launched a new communication tool that sends automated texts and emails to 911 callers and victims with acknowledgments, response updates, and case information.

“They’ll get a message from 911, they opt-in and then that’s where they start receiving messages. As far as that goes, the officer is on their way, if there are any kind of delays in service,” Deana Dipaolo, of Altamonte Springs police, said. “They’ll also get the detective information and their phone number, how to get ahold of them so they can know every process of their case moving forward.”

Officials say the Community Connect system is intended to extend two-way communication beyond the initial “What’s your emergency?” exchange.

Police said details will also be available soon on its website and welcomes community feedback.
