Lake County, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening after a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 7:54 p.m. March 7 on State Road 44 east of Huff Road. A 2008 Ford F-650 pickup traveling eastbound went into the westbound lane and struck a 2023 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle that was traveling westbound, the agency said.

The impact caused the motorcycle to catch fire and threw the rider into the path of a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was behind the motorcycle, the Highway Patrol said. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. The Highway Patrol did not release the rider’s name. The report says he was a 39-year-old man from Tavares, Florida.
The pickup driver, a 27-year-old Hobe Sound man, was taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with serious injuries, the report said. The Toyota driver, a 63-year-old woman from Apopka, was not transported and was reported uninjured.
The Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
