VIDEO: Officers on paddleboards catch runaway suspect in Halifax River

Chase Cruz, 28, faces charges of loitering and resisting arrest

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two law enforcement officers took to paddleboards on Monday evening while pursuing a runaway suspect into the Halifax River, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said that a VSO deputy and a Daytona Beach Shores officer used paddle boards to catch the suspect — identified as Chase Cruz, 28 — after he jumped into the river.

“After being brought to shore, (Cruz) was charged with loitering and prowling and resisting arrest,” the release reads.
