Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday for fallen Army major from Polk County

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Government buildings in Tallahassee and in Winter Haven will fly flags at half-staff on Saturday to honor the US Army major who was one of six soldiers killed in Kuwait.

Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be lowered in honor of Maj. Cody Khork, who was killed in Kuwait as part of the ongoing conflict in Iran.

Khork, who was from Polk County, was a multiple launch rocket system/fire directions specialist who had served with the Army since 2009. He was posthumously promoted from captain to major.

Flags will be lowered at the state Capitol in Tallahassee, and all local and government facilities throughout Winter Haven, from sunrise to sunset.

Saturday is also the day the family will hold its memorial service at Haven Worship Center.
