ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A crash in Ormond Beach on Thursday afternoon left a 25-year-old dead, according to the police department.
In a release, police said that the crash happened at the intersection of North Nova Road and North Old Kings Road around 4:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, investigators learned that a white SUV was heading north on North Nova Road and was trying to turn left into the Trails Shopping Center.
However, the 25-year-old motorcyclist was heading south at the same time, resulting in a crash, police added. Speed didn’t appear to be a contributing factor, though.
The motorcyclist, identified as Chase Rivera, 25, of Ormond Beach, was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the release shows.
“This tragic crash is a stark reminder of how quickly lives can change on our roadways,” Police Chief Jesse Godfrey said. “We strongly urge all drivers to remain vigilant, especially when making turns. Taking an extra moment to pause and look twice for motorcycles and cars can save a life.”
The crash remains under investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact police at (386) 229-7173 or Jack.Lyster@ormondbeach.org.
