Florida investigators look into viral video of people in airboat firing on alligator

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced on Thursday evening that the agency is looking into an infamous video that’s gone viral on social media.

In a release, FWC officials said that the video shows “individuals in the Everglades on an airboat who appear to be discharging firearms at an alligator.”

While the FWC confirmed that officers are investigating what happened, few details area available at this time.

In Florida, rifles and handguns can be used for commercial alligator trapping methods, but they can’t be used recreationally. According to the FWC, the only firearm that may be used to take an alligator is a bang stick, and only when the alligator is attached to a restraining line.
