KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Deputies responded to a home in Kissimmee on Friday afternoon after an elderly man with dementia shot his son, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said they headed to 103 Westmoreland Circle shortly before 1 p.m. after the shooting was called in.

Upon arrival, they learned that the 85-year-old man had shot his son, a man in his 50s, the release shows.

“The suspect, who has been diagnosed with dementia, is currently being interviewed by detectives,” the release reads. “A determination will be made to either place the subject under arrest or Baker Act the subject.”

Investigators added that both the father and son had been living at the house together, though deputies have responded there three times now over the past 10 days due to “verbal altercations” that broke out between them.

Now, the son is in surgery for his injuries, deputies revealed.

No additional information has been released at this time.
