ORLANDO, Fla. – Leaders at Orlando International Airport (MCO) are considering a plan to increase security as travel demand continues to grow.

At a meeting on Wednesday, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) will vote to approve an initiative to assess every security camera on the property.

The project involves a systematic review and verification process to document the existing field of view for each camera.

The cameras would be evaluated individually to confirm coverage area, orientation, and any obstructions impacting visibility.

As part of the plan, workers would seek to close visual gaps that could be exploited at MCO, the seventh busiest airport in the U.S., with 34.8 million passengers each year.

If approved, the cost for the request would not exceed $186,191.

Jaren Smith was traveling on Tuesday and said the assessment would be beneficial for all passengers.

“I think it’s a great measure to take,” Smith said. “Security is really important, and I think it’s really a great investment as well.”

The GOAA board will vote on the initiative during a meeting on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
