A generic allergy drug has been recalled by its pharmaceutical company over possible cross-contamination with another medication.

Unique Pharmaceutical Laboratories is voluntarily recalling cetirizine hydrochloride tablets USP 5 mg. It goes by the brand name of Zyrtec.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, a technician noticed a red dot on some of the pills when counting and bottling them. Other tablets were discolored.
It’s believed the drugs may have been cross-contaminated with ranitidine, which is a heartburn medication. Customers who are hypersensitive to the drug’s ingredients could suffer from hypotension, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, loss of consciousness and other life-threatening reactions.
So far, there have been no reports of customers affected by this, according to the FDA.
The tablets were distributed by Rising Pharma Holdings Inc. nationwide in 100-tablet bottles.
The following lot numbers are under recall:
- GY825029
- GY825030
- GY825031
- GY825032
However, the lot number won’t be listed on a regular amber prescription bottle. You should see the name of the drugmaker or the distributor, though.
The tablets are expected to expire in October 2028.
