Yahoo!: 'Election' is top search of 2012

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The 2012 general election topped celebrities and the new iPhone 5 in Yahoo!'s annual list of the top searches of the year.

Despite millions of campaign ads and coverage on local and national television, people still logged on and searched for news on the presidential and congressional elections.

The list also included a link to Central Florida. Melbourne native and Sports Illustrated cover girl Kate Upton was fourth on the top searches list.

The top 10 searches overall in 2012 include:

  5. Kate Middleton
  6. Whitney Houston
  7. Olympics
  8. Political Polls
