POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Dozens of people living around a Polk County mining company say they want their water tested after millions of gallons of radioactive water have seeped into the ground from a sinkhole.

The mining company mines for phosphate to create fertilizer. However the process leaves behind a radioactive material, and the sinkhole may be draining water into an underground aquifer.

The company said it is confident it can recapture the water and insists there is no danger to the public.
