Powerball jackpot hits $1 billion

The latest Powerball jackpot closed in on its 10th digit Thursday morning, now at $1 billion ahead of the next drawing.

Dozens of prizes including six of $1 million or more were won in Wednesday’s drawing — white balls 9, 12, 22, 41, 61, red Powerball 25 and Power Play multiplier 4 — but the big one rolled over, making for the game’s sixth-largest prize and the biggest jackpot advertised in more than a year, according to a news release.

The estimated $1 billion jackpot represents a cash value of $453.1 million, the release states.

Your odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, with the jackpot 1 in 292.2 million, according to the release.

The next Powerball drawing is set for 11 p.m. ET Saturday, Aug. 30, and you can watch it live on News 6.

The top five biggest jackpots in Powerball history are:

  1. $2.04 Billion – Nov. 7, 2022 – CA
  2. $1.765 Billion – Oct. 11, 2023 - CA
  3. $1.586 Billion – Jan. 13, 2016 – CA, FL, TN
  4. $1.326 Billion – April 6, 2024 - OR
  5. $1.08 Billion – July 19, 2023 – CA
