New victims come forward in case of Volusia youth counselor accused of molesting boy

Nathan Gorzelanczyk held without bail, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Deltona youth counselor accused of molesting a boy he mentored through church is back in jail after two new victims came forward in the past week, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

In the latest accusations, Nathan Gorzelanczyk, 31, allegedly solicited a 12-year-old boy to expose himself and groped a 14-year-old boy. Deputies said the allegations are in addition to the original molestation charge.

Investigators obtained two new arrest warrants Friday for Gorzelanczyk based on the disclosures, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said it initially arrested Gorzelanczyk on one count of lewd or lascivious molestation involving a 12-year-old boy.

Through Gorzelanczyk's work with children as a volunteer at local churches and with the Guardian ad Litem program -- along with his job at the Florida United Methodist Children's Home, a job from which he was recently fired -- investigators worried there could be additional victims, deputies said.

A woman contacted the Sheriff’s Office two days after Gorzelanczyk's arrest to report that he had acted inappropriately with her son. Deputies said the woman told investigators she met Gorzelanczyk at the Journey Church in Orange City, and that he would frequently offer to watch her sons while she was at work.

The woman said Gorzelanczyk would take the boys on outings and buy them gifts. Deputies said after the woman learned of his arrest, she said she questioned her boys about their contacts with him.

The woman's 12-year-old son told his mother that Gorzelanczyk offered him money on numerous occasions if he would flash him, or in other words expose himself to Gorzelanczyk, the Sheriff's Office said. The boy also said Gorzelanczyk would ask him to sit on his face or chest.

Deputies said while the boy insisted that he didn't take up Gorzelanczyk’s offers, the woman said her son would often come home with money after spending time with Gorzelanczyk.

The boy added that Gorzelanczyk tried to get on top of him one time while lying on a bed at Gorzelanczyk's  house, but the boy said he pushed Gorzelanczyk off of him, the Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators learned Gorzelanczyk groped another 14-year-old boy while driving in his vehicle, deputies said.

Gorzelanczyk was charged with one count each of lewd or lascivious conduct and lewd or lascivious molestation. Deputies said he was taken into custody shortly after noon. He is being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, the Sheriff's Office said.

Anyone with information about Gorzelanczyk is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-323-3574 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277 TIPS if tipsters prefer to remain anonymous. Deputies said information can also be sent anonymously to Crime Stoppers by downloading the smartphone app from the Crime Stoppers website.
