Officials investigate after video shows shark being dragged behind speed boat Spotted eagle ray is listed as protected species
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating after a video shows someone holding up a spotted eagle ray.
The eagle ray is listed as a protected species and is found in inshore waters, but may cross oceanic basins to depths around 200 feet, according to FWC.
The investigation comes after a recent report confirmed that this same man was investigated in 2015 for harming protected birds.
Officials said the case was closed.
Investigators have not filed charges against the men, however, an online petition has been created urging for prosecutors to push for jail time and community service.
