Former Orlando City player accused of knocking cab driver's tooth out

Benjamin Polk arrested on battery charge

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A former Orlando City B soccer player Benjamin Polk was arrested early Saturday morning after he punched a taxi cab driver multiple times during a fight about the fare, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

A passerby called 911 at 3:08 a.m. Saturday when he or she saw the cab driver lying on the ground bleeding. The cab driver told deputies he picked up Polk and another man from Pine Street in downtown Orlando and drove them to Lake Mary.

When they arrived, the passengers were upset about the $57 fare, but the driver told them he had already ran their credit card.

Deputies said Polk repeatedly punched the cab driver in the face, knocking his front tooth out.

Polk was charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm. He was taken to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility but has since posted $15,000 bond and been released.

Polk was a forward for Orlando City B team. His contract expired Thursday after the team's last game of the season.

"Orlando City SC is aware of and will continue to monitor the situation. However, because the incident occurred after Polk’s contract expired on Thursday night following the conclusion of OCB’s season, the Club will not issue any further comment," the team said.
