ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police are searching for two people accused of stealing a puppy from a store Friday afternoon.
The owner of the Puppy Stop on East Colonial Drive in Orlando said the two spent about an hour looking at the dogs.
"We think kind of that they weren't going to pay for the dog. They were just waiting for the right moment where they could bolt with the dog," owner Charles Glatz said.
The store's 14 surveillance cameras caught the man and woman going from crib to crib before finally selecting a Yorkshire terrier.
"Supposedly they negotiated a price, she left and didn't come back," Glatz said.
A few minutes later the man is seen running out of the store with the puppy.
"The guy holding the Yorkie bolted out the door, and before (my employee) knew it, he was already across the street and couldn't catch up," Glatz said.
This is the second time in three months someone stole a Yorkie from the Puppy Stop. Cameras were rolling in November when a woman was caught trying to put a dog in her purse. Surveillance video caught a man putting a pug down his pants in 2013. Both were caught and arrested.
"When you come in and steal from us and we get you, you're going to pay full price for that dog and full price means a trip to the jail," Glatz said.
Glatz said there is a lesson learned in this latest theft. He plans to retrain staff to keep a closer eye on the puppies and the customers at all times.
There is a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves.
