DeSantis speaks at homeschool convention in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday spoke at the Florida Parent Educators Association’s Annual Homeschool Convention in Gaylord Palms.

DeSantis spoke highly of school choice in Florida while lobbing criticism at familiar targets, such as universities and blue states.

“A lot of these universities are more interested in intellectual fads. They’re interested in things like race and gender and ethnicity and focusing history through those lenses rather than giving an accurate assessment of what’s going on. Many of these people think that the Founding Fathers should just simply be ignored because, ‘Oh, why do they want to study folks like that who are, you know, relatively wealthy and White?’ And that’s the mindset that permeates academia. So, I think a lot of it’s fallen out of favor over the years and I think to great consequence to our country, because I think that you look at some of the divisions, we should all have the same foundation about what it means to be an American,” DeSantis said.
