Groveland City Council primary election: Judith Fike finishes third

Official results to be released Friday if no recount needed

GROVELAND, Fla. – A Groveland city councilwoman at the center of a controversy will not be staying for another term.

Judith Fike finished a distant third in Tuesday’s primary election for the District 4 seat, earning 14% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Retired Navy veteran Jim O’Neil took just over 50% of the vote, with Michael C. Jaycox gaining 35.73%, according to Lake County, which said the results include partial Vote-by-Mail and all Election Day precincts.

The results do not include provisional ballots or ballots with signature issues that may need to be cured, according to the county.

Official results will be released on Friday if no recount is required.

“Exercising your right to vote, regardless of the size of an election, contributes to a healthy and productive community,” stated Alan Hays, Lake County Supervisor of Elections. “I would like to thank each voter and Election Worker who chose to be civically engaged in this Municipal Election. Participating in the election process is a key freedom in the life of every American citizen.”

Fike recently made headlines when the Groveland City Council suspended her over questionable social media posts.

Fike sued the council and a judge ruled that she had to be reinstated, saying the council did not have the authority to remove her.
