Florida Rep. Cory Mills faces censure over sex misconduct allegations, defense contract dealings

Republican congresswoman filed the resolution

WASHINGTON – Cory Mills, the Republican who represents Seminole and Volusia counties in the U.S. House, is facing censure by a fellow Republican over a growing number of allegations, including sexual violence and misconduct, federal defense contracting violations, and stolen valor.

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-South Carolina, filed the latest resolution against Mills on Wednesday. Mace read the resolution on the U.S. House floor.

On Wednesday night, Mills moved to have the censure resolution sent to the House Ethics Committee for investigation. A subcommittee will be formed to handle the probe.

The House voted 310 to 103 to do that instead of approving the resolution outright. You can see how your representative voted HERE.

Mace wants Mills censured by the full House and stripped of his assignments on the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mace’s resolution lists several accusations:

  • That Mills, a defense contractor, through his companies, secured nearly $1 million in federal contracts for munitions and weapons, which were distributed to prisons across the country, including 94 contracts since Jan. 9, 2024, in violation of U.S. House rules and federal law.
  • That one of Mills’ companies was registered to work in foreign countries, and that his companies had either sought or entered into contracts to sell munitions in foreign countries, while he served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Armed Services Committee.
  • There was reason to believe Mills misrepresented or omitted required facts on financial disclosure statements and accepted excessive contributions in the form of personal loans.

Those accusations stem from a review by the Office of Congressional Conduct that was conducted last year. The House Committee on Ethics is investigating them.

The resolution also lists accusations that Mills may have misrepresented or made up facts surrounding his military service during the Iraq War in 2003, leading to his awarding of a Bronze Star in 2021.

The accusations are based on reports from several service members who dispute Mills’ story, and a retired brigadier general who claims he did not write, read, or sign the form that recommended Mills for the award, even though his signature is on the form.

Mills’ chief of staff and general counsel, Catherine Treadwell, had a statement regarding the stolen valor allegations posted on Mills’ X.com account.

“General Bray authorized and approved this award and any assertion that I signed General Bray’s paperwork without authorization is at best uninformed and at worst is offensive slander,” she said.

The resolution also includes the February 2025 investigation into Mills allegedly assaulting a woman, believed to be a girlfriend, at his Washington, D.C. home. Mills was arrested for misdemeanor assault.

Finally, the resolution lists the court case earlier this year in North Florida, where another former romantic partner is accusing Mills of threatening to send nude photos and threatening to harm her future romantic partners because she ended their relationship after learning about the February investigation.

In October, a judge issued an injunction for protection against dating violence against Mills.

Mills has denied the allegations.

“Such conduct by Representative Cory Mills affects the dignity and integrity of the proceedings of the House and brings discredit upon the House,” the resolution reads.

Cory Mills was first elected to serve U.S. House District 7 in 2022, representing Seminole County and part of Volusia County, and was reelected in 2024.

According to reporting by the New York Post, Mace and other Republican congresswomen have accused fellow Republicans of making deals with the Democrats to stop them from filing for a censure against Mills, including agreeing not to censure Democratic lawmakers.

An effort to censure Del. Stacey Plaskett — a Democrat who represents the U.S. Virgin Islands — for her reportedly texting with Jeffrey Epstein during a congressional hearing in 2019 failed this week after Democrats threatened to move to censure Mills.

Axios reports it’s the third time an attempt to censure a Democrat failed after the minority party threatened to censure Mills.

Mills, on X.com, denied that there was any backroom deal being done on his behalf.

“It has been made obvious to me that in recent months, Democrats have been using me as a political pawn,” Mills wrote, adding that his staff had prepared for the censure vote on Tuesday and were just as surprised that it never happened.
