MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday delivered remarks at the 2026 U.S. Caribbean Maritime and Ports Forum at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

“(We) really helped pave the way for the cruise lines to get back going, It’s an important part of our economy, obviously it’s an important part of tourism,” DeSantis said of Florida’s role in maritime during the COVID-19 pandemic. “(...) Our state is a great state to be kind of this gateway, partially because we’re doing the things that you need to do as a state, we’re doing it right.”

The Atlantic Council’s Caribbean Initiative hosted the inaugural forum, which focused on “strengthening US-Caribbean cooperation across ports, shipping, and the broader maritime sector.”
