Sanford woman accused of gouging roommate's eye out

Victim's eye permanently removed

SANFORD, Fla. – A Seminole County woman is accused of gouging her roommate's eye out during an altercation Friday afternoon, according to the Sanford Police Department.

Authorities became aware of the incident when the victim's daughter called 911 on Saturday and said that her mother was at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she had to undergo surgery to have her eye permanently removed.

"Yesterday, my mom had to go to the hospital because, like, her eye, something happened to it. So she wasn't telling anyone what happened to her eye until today, she told me that the person that lives with her actually gouged out her eye," the victim's daughter told the 911 operator.

The victim told police that her roommate, 28-year-old Quaneisha Knight, was going in and out of the Sanford residence arguing with a neighbor, so the victim asked her to stop, the report said.

Knight began choking the victim with her hands, then used her fingers to gouge the woman's eye out, causing the victim's eye to be dislodged from its socket, according to police.

The victim was in severe pain and lost consciousness during the incident, but she didn't call authorities because Knight threatened to "finish her off" if she told anyone, the affidavit said.

Knight denied causing the victim's injuries. She was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
