FAR OUT! Stunning NASA video shows auroras as seen from space

Green ‘ribbons’ hug Earth in the video

NASA on Friday shared a stunning new view from the International Space Station.

The timelapse video (see above) shows a view of auroras as seen from space.

In the video, green “ribbons” hug the Earth while a thin orange glow of the atmosphere traces the planet’s edge.

NASA said auroras are the result of charged particles from the sun colliding with gases in Earth’s atmosphere, and they’re all guided by Earth’s magnetic field.

Oxygen contributes green and red light to the auroras, while nitrogen produces blues and purples.
