WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – An accused burglar trying to break into a Winter Springs home Thursday was thwarted by an armed homeowner, officials with the Winter Springs Police Department said.

Police said they received a 911 call from the homeowner on Lisa Loop at 6:15 a.m. who informed them he had just fired two shots from a handgun at a person trying to enter his home from the back porch. The 17-year-old suspect was not hit or injured.

The teen suspect ran away and officers were able to track him down to a stolen vehicle and arrest him. Police said the suspect was involved in multiple vehicle burglaries in the same neighborhood around the same time. The vehicle the suspect was driving was reported stolen from Longwood.

After being handcuffed police said the teen maneuvered his hands from behind his back to the front. When police re-secured the suspect he resisted getting back into the patrol car, according to the report.

The 17-year-old is charged with burglary, larceny, grand theft, loitering, violation of probation and resisting an officer without violence.
