WINTER PARK, Fla. – A woman on her way to work was abducted in Winter Park while she was on the phone with her husband, police said.
The abduction occurred before 6 a.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of Lee Road.
Winter Park police said the woman, 55-year-old Theresa Bradley was on the phone with her husband when she was approached from behind by a man, who grabbed her neck and forced back her back into her vehicle. Bradley's husband heard his wife scream before losing contact with her, police said.
"She started screaming just about as she got out of the car. I guess. So somebody must have been hiding in the bushes behind her," her husband told dispatchers.
The abductor stole money and personal property from the woman before exiting the vehicle, police said. Bradley, who suffered a hand injury, then spotted a police car at Bill's Car Wash in Casselberry and pulled over to report the incident.
The assailant was described as a black man about 6 feet tall with big eyes and a 1-inch Afro. He was wearing tan, suede "three-quarter type boot shoes" that were unlaced, the woman told police.
Winter Park police said a robbery and abduction took place in the same area of Lee Road about two weeks ago, and the incidents may be related.
"So we're unsure whether they are the same suspect, but we definitely have a similar crime," said Sgt. Jamie Loomis. "She was able to remain calm during the entire incident. She kept thinking the entire time and as soon as she found an opportunity to safely get away she did. It's really remarkable."
