Is it checking out a local improv group? A movie, perhaps? What about seeing some pop of color showing up in your neighborhood?
Hey, I’m News 6 producer Brooke Savage, the writer behind this Setting The Stage newsletter.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on in Central Florida’s theatre and arts scene. ⤵
😂 Yes, and...
Did you know Casselberry has its own improv troupe? They call themselves The Corner Gallery. They present their unscripted performances at the Casselberry Recreation Center, bringing a fresh entertainment option to the community. They’re also proud members of the Casselberry Chamber of Commerce, partnering with the City of Casselberry to perform and teach at the recreation center.
For Casselberry officials, it’s a way to support local arts and foster community connections. The recreation center’s transformation into a comedy venue represents an innovative use of public space. News 6 content gatherer Alex Cook posted all about it.
🎨 There’s a new mural popping up in Kissimmee
The next time you stop by the Orange Gardens Community Center in Kissimmee, you may notice, it looks a little different.
An artist is putting together a five-wall mural installation telling the story of community, growth and celebration.
Deivis Sanchez is the artist behind the project. He said there’s a lot of work that goes into a mural. He told me all about how it all comes together.
🎞 A movie out right now with a famous actor may have some recognizable backdrops...
Have you seen the new “F1″ movie starring Brad Pitt yet? You may want to pay extra attention to the scenes filmed right here in Central Florida. Pitt shot racing scenes at Daytona International Speedway during the Rolex 24 last year.
Other Volusia County businesses can also be spotted in the movie, including Pappas Drive-In and Family Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the historic building later last year.
📽 Speaking of movies, they’re back at Garden Theatre in Winter Garden
The projector is rolling once again at the Garden Theatre in Winter Garden with a new summer movie series, the first event since the city agreed to a new business plan for the venue.
This month, the theatre is even hosting two double features, with “Beetlejuice” and its sequel on July 24, and “Top Gun” and its sequel on July 31. News 6 digital editor Christie Zizo posted all of the details you need to know.
