The Next Named Storm Is Coming Soon

No description found

Hurricane Erin is officially post-tropical officially ending its long reign in the Atlantic.

Erin has put the Atlantic basin back above average when it comes to Accumulated Cyclone Energy. ACE is a metric to determine the intensity of a storm and the season as a whole. ACE points start generating once the storm becomes a tropical storm.

Accumulated Cyclone Energy to date

No doubt most of the ACE has been generated by Erin. It’s not even close.

A disturbance Northeast of the Caribbean has a very good shot at becoming a tropical depression over the weekend. This one will lift northwest towards Bermuda.

In about a week, the Canadian Maritimes will have to watch for potential impacts.

The East Coast of the U.S. is protected at the moment from anything coming west from the Atlantic as a huge dip in the jet stream will send any storm packing.

Another tropical wave continues to defy rough conditions for development as it moves closer to the Caribbean. It has looked close to developing a couple of times over the past few days, but could never seal the deal.

Conditions will turn even more unfavorable in the short term, but some model guidance shows the system perking back up again once it gets into the western Caribbean.

While me have a couple of storms get names to closeout August, but there are no immediate threats to the U.S.

I’m off next week and won’t be able to send a newsletter so I wanted to give you a rundown of what I was watching heading into the weekend.
