When it comes to competitive, interactive Toy Story-themed rides at Walt Disney World, I’ve always leaned more toward Toy Story Midway Mania.
But after testing out its handheld devices last summer, I’ve been looking forward to the upgrades at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
Hello Space Rangers, it’s Haley.
I held off on sending my newsletter last Friday because over the weekend, I got invited to a “playtest” — aka a preview — of the newly refurbished Magic Kingdom ride.
During one of my spins, I used my phone to capture a point-of-view video. Trying to earn Galactic Hero status is difficult enough while firing the blaster and steering the vehicle; adding recording duties made the run noticeably harder. My score was nowhere near a million points.
My second spin, I improved my score, but I’m still seeking that Galactic Hero status.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin opens officially on April 8, and cast member previews are underway. Disney has not announced previews for Annual Passholders.
Make it blue 🏰
During my Magic Kingdom outing, I snapped photos of the new color scheme on Cinderella Castle, as repainting neared completion.
I enjoyed the “EARidescent” look, but going back to the classic blue remains preferable.
Grand tea time! ☕
The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is my favorite place on Walt Disney World property to grab a bite to eat or get a drink.
When Disney announced that its tea experience would be returning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, I practically cheered.
The tea room is back open and serving tea for two or more!
Disney Cruise Line
The next Wish chapter 🚢
Disney Cruise Line has given a name to its ninth ship.
Due in late 2027 and adding to the Wish class, the Disney Believe will weave “Encanto,” “Frozen,” and “Moana” into a floating storybook for families. The announcement also signals more fleet growth as Disney heads toward 13 ships by 2031.
Universal Orlando
Double trouble 🎪
Ahead of MEGACON Orlando, Universal Orlando informed me to stay tuned for a big Halloween Horror Nights announcement. Seeing that it’s a landmark year, suspicions were strong that a certain icon would make his return.
Infernal Carnival of Nightmares, aka ICON, is where nostalgia meets nightmare. Both Jack the Clown AND Oddfellow will return in a house that plays on their history and friction.
MEGACON attendees got the first look at the haunted house announcement, including a special stage appearance from Jack and Oddfellow.
As always, keep me in the loop through my email or reach out to me on X or Instagram.
See you next week.
