The Atlantic hurricane season just saw a 60-year-old record fall.
To date, the Atlantic still has not seen a hurricane.

When one does form it will be the latest-forming first hurricane on record. The on record portion goes back to 1966 when satellites burst onto the seen.
Before that we had no idea if storms were out there unless a ship ran into it.
Anyway, AI Models suggest we could see the first hurricane of the 2026 hurricane season over the next 7-10 days.
The traditional physics-based models disagree. Personally, I am interested to see what model wins.
The shear is low, the water temperature is warm, but there is some dry air out in that area highlighted by the National Hurricane Center.
We often talked about that the best environment in the Atlantic this for storms to develop would be in the subtropics, where this system is attempting to develop.
Either way there is no threat to the U.S.
In the long range there is nothing threatening either.
We have made it past the climatological peak of hurricane season, but peak season really rolls through the middle of October.
